Avoid These Simple Mistakes To Ensure Wedding Success

No one wants to be left in floods on tears on their wedding day.

Fortunately you've arrived on this blog post! All you need to do is avoid the pitfalls that so many brides fall into on their wedding day. The steps are simple and if implemented correctly will smooth over your worries for your wedding day.

Let's take a look at these one by one:

1) Overdecorating

The problem with there being so many different options to your wedding day, you think that everything will work for your wedding day. The next thing you know, you've spent 70% of your budget on decorations! You are far better off spending some time deciding which options work best for your wedding day.

2) Doing it all yourself

I know you've probably been planning this day since you were 4 years old but that doesn't mean you don't need help. A Wedding Planner would make a massive difference to your day. You can explain the day you've been dreaming of to your planner and if they are any good, they will be able to make your dream wedding day work. They are there purely to assist you, not to tell you what to do.

Some venues will provide a Planner with their packages but others don't. It's always worth asking.

Of course, if you haven't been dreaming about this day since you were 4 they would be more than happy to advise and help you create the best possible wedding day.

3) Not having a contingency

There will always be something that crops up that you forget about (even if you do use a certain checklist). If you don't have a contingency within your budget then you have no way of accommodating for it. You should put aside around 10% incase anything were to happen that would require some extra cash.

4) Falling foul of dieting regimes

You've found your dream dress. You are over the moon. A small part of your brain then says 'it would look better if you lost a couple of pounds'. You then get straight onto Google and find the latest and greatest diet regime. Please be weary of this. I'm not saying don't do it. I'm saying that it's very easy to starve yourself but that won't be doing yourself any favours.

You want to look great in your wedding dress. I get that. The best advice I can give you is to consult a professional Personal Trainer as early on in your planning process as possible. They will be able to ensure you look your best heading into your wedding day.

5) Forgetting to Eat

Your wedding day is the most important day of your life. All eyes will be on you. You need to make sure you eat properly. There is nothing worse than a fainting bride on their wedding day (I've seen it happen before). Make sure you have a good, full breakfast when you wake up as you won't then be eating until your breakfast, which may not be until 3pm. I would also make sure someone close to you has snacks (unless you have one of those awesome dresses with pockets). That way, if you get peckish when you're having your photos done, you have something there.

I've seen some photographers with the foresight to carry an energy bar with them in case such things should happen but you can always give them yours to make sure they are looking after it (they aren't exactly short of pockets, are they?!)

6) Forgetting the Volume

The Reception has begun. Everyone is having a great time. The drink is flowing and people are up on the dance floor. However, not everyone will be up on the dance floor, nor will they want to. Some of the older guests may wish to relax a little more. Some venues will provide a second smaller room for your guests to relax in. If that's the case then this point doesn't apply to you. However, not all venues provide this. If your venue doesn't then you'll need to consider these guests as well as those who are on the dance floor.

This is a tough balance but if you can pull it off, everyone will be extremely grateful!

7) Forgetting about your guests

Your closest friends and family will be with you on your special day. You want to make sure they remember your wedding day as special, not 'just another wedding'. You want them to come away and tell everyone that your wedding was the best wedding they'd ever been to. We've all had that Summer where all your friends are getting married and each one is great but you get to the end of the season and you can't remember which is which. They've all merged into one.

That's because the couple haven't considered making the day special for the guests. The single best way to do that is to ensure that there is something, beyond what everyone else has, to remember your wedding day by. There are some obvious examples of this.

Magicians are a great way to achieve this (www.theluxurymagician.com is quite good I've heard!). You want to make sure you avoid the cheesy magician though as there is nothing worse than a cheesy magician skulking around your wedding attempting to entertain your guests. Make sure you choose someone who matches the theming of your day. Make sure you hire someone with that certain 'je ne sais quoi'. That will leave your guests remembering your day for the rest of their lives.

You didn't honestly think I was just going to give your 7 ways did you?!
As a bonus for following the link, here's a special 8th way people mess up their wedding day:

8) Not taking Time for yourself

It's your big day. Take some time to enjoy it. There is so much to do make sure you take time to just sit down with your new partner. Even if it's only 10 minutes. It makes a massive difference on your day.

That's pretty much it. 8 things brides do that mean they don't have the most amazing wedding day possible. Now you know them, you know how to avoid them!

All the best,
